Travelling with a bicycle
When travelling on our trains, ferries or regional buses, it is usually fine for you to take a bicycle with you. However, you cannot take bicycles on trams or urban buses, as there is simply not enough space. It also takes time to get a bicycle onto the vehicle, making it more difficult to keep to the timetable.
Where bicycles can be carried on board a bus or train, you must buy a bicycle ticket. This costs SEK 30 and is valid for 180 minutes. Tickets can be purchased from any of ourpoints of sale, but we recommend buying one from the bus driver or train conductor so you are certain there is room on board for your bicycle.
If you want to cycle to one of our stops, travel centres or stations, you will find a list of our park & ride facilities for bicycles here as well as the number of spaces in the Gothenburg area and surrounding area.
One alternative to taking your own bicycle into central Gothenburg is “Styr & Ställ”. During the summer, you can sign up for a subscription for SEK 75 and use your Västtrafikkort to pick up a bicycle from any of 60 stations. Find out more about how to link your Västtrafikkort at Styr & Ställ.
There are exceptions to the bicycle restrictions on our vehicles. For example, folding mini-cycles can be carried, as we consider them to be luggage. The cycle must be folded up when you bring it on board. Select the type of vehicle below to see which rules apply.
You can take a bicycle with you on other buses, subject to space being available. You will need to buy a bicycle ticket, which costs SEK 30 on top of the normal fare. The cycle must be stowed in the storage area on the bus. Folded mini-cycles that you can carry yourself are classed as luggage, however, and can be carried free of charge in accordance with the following terms and conditions of travel regarding baggage.
If there is room on board, you can take your bicycle with you on the Alependeln, Alingsåspendeln and Kungsbackapendeln commuter lines, as well as on Västtågen trains. A bicycle ticket costs SEK 30 and you can buy one from the train conductor. The ticket is valid for 180 minutes. Our commuter trains have space for six bicycles per train and Västtågen trains have at least two spaces per train. Folded mini-cycles are classed as luggage, however, and can be carried free of charge
