Medical transport

If you live in the Västra Götaland region and you need to travel for medical or dental care – and you are unable to make your own way there – you can get help from Västtrafik and the Västra Götaland region.

To book medical transport by taxi or using a special vehicle, Ronden and any connecting taxi, please call the booking centre on:

020 91 90 90

We are open between 6 am and 10 pm on weekdays and between 8 am and 10 pm at weekends (emergency medical transport can be booked 24 hours a day)

Ronden

Every day lots of people travel to the region's hospitals. They may be carers, healthcare workers, or people visiting patients or you. They can all travel on Ronden – convenient buses with disabled access that will take you to some of the region's larger hospitals and some other medical facilities.

How to book

For guaranteed medical transport with Ronden, pre-book on 0771 91 90 90. The maximum contribution for medical passengers on Ronden is SEK 60. The standard ticket range applies to other passengers (except for school cards and period cards for schoolchildren). We do not accept cash on the buses, but you can pay by card. Ronden runs on weekdays (excluding public holidays) all year round.

Ronden 6 and 8 call at Entrance T at Uddevalla Hospital instead of the Hospital Entrance as the road to the Hospital Entrance is not finished yet.

You can find departures and stops here. You can also find your journey in Travel planner.

Alternatives to Ronden

If you have a medical condition that requires you to travel by taxi or special vehicle and you are unable to use Ronden, you will need a certificate from your healthcare provider confirming this. The certificate must be sent to the regional medical transport office as soon as possible. This certificate is also required if you have a free pass for medical transport. The fare for a journey by taxi or special vehicle is the same as the contribution.

When you travel by taxi or special vehicle, you must be prepared to travel with other passengers. Your journey will therefore not always take the shortest route to the place you are going. You must also be prepared to adjust your departure time by up to an hour.

The contribution for a taxi or special vehicle is SEK 150; if you have a valid mobility services pass, the contribution is SEK 60. You will find more information about the rules and costs that apply to your medical transport on the Region Västra Götaland website. If you live in Halland, please visit the Region Halland website instead.

How much does it cost?

You are charged part of the total cost, through the, so called, user's contribution. How much this is depends on the type of vehicle you are travelling on:

  • on public transport (train, bus, tram, plane, ferry) the maximum charge is SEK 60 per single journey. You buy the ticket at normal price and are reimbursed the excess afterwards.
  • Travel by taxi costs you SEK 150 one way. If you have been granted mobility services, the cost is SEK 60. You pay this directly to the taxi driver.
  • If a private individual takes you in their own car or you drive yourself, you get an allowance of SEK 15 per 10 km.
  • Ambulance transport costs SEK 150.

Always save your receipt or ticket to be reimbursed the money!
