To allow us to offer as many people as possible the best transport available as cost- effectively as possible, we need both size and local knowledge. Västtrafik co-ordinates all public transport services in the whole of Västra Götaland County.
On behalf of our owners (the Västra Götaland county and its 49 municipalities), we decide how public transport services should operate - when, where and with what changeovers etc.
We propose the cost of travel, the payment system and ticket types, and the standard of vehicles used in public transport services.
We draw up timetables.
We develop information systems to make using public transport services more attractive.
But we do not operate a single bus.
We are responsible for ensuring that your public transport network works. But we do not employ any drivers. We procure transport from competing operators to appoint transport operators for the buses, ferries, trams and trains we have decided to provide, on the routes and at the times which we believe are convenient to you.
