This is the travel guarantee

Under the Västtrafik travel guarantee, you can take a taxi whenever, in your judgement, you will be at least 20 minutes late arriving at your destination as a result of Västtrafik failing to meet its undertakings. If the area you are in is not covered by a taxi operator, you are covered by the travel guarantee if you take your own car or are driven in a private vehicle instead. The maximum reimbursement for taxi or transport by private vehicle is SEK 300.

Who decides if you can take a taxi?

You always decide yourself whether to take a taxi or wait for the next Västtrafik departure yourself. You cannot demand that Västtrafik staff should order a taxi on your behalf.

Does the travel guarantee apply even if you don't take a taxi?

If you are at least 20 minutes late arriving at your destination but have not taken a taxi or travelled by private vehicle, you are still entitled to certain amount of compensation since Västtrafik had failed to meet its undertakings.

What happens if the taxi journey costs more than SEK 300?

If the taxi journey costs more than SEK 300, you will have to cover the difference yourself. We are aware that SEK 300 does not cover longer taxi journeys. One solution is to take a taxi to the nearest location where services are operating as normal and catch a bus/train/tram/ferry to your destination.

You will have to wait for the next bus/train/tram/ferry or choose an alternative route. If this means that you arrive at least 20 minutes late at your destination, you are entitled to a certain amount of compensation under the travel guarantee.

How is reimbusement for journeys by private vehicle dealt with?

Västtrafik calculates an amount on the basis of the Swedish National Tax Board's standard for tax-free mileage allowance. The maximum amount is SEK 300 irrespective of how many people are travelling in the car.

What happens if the vehicle is full and you are not allowed onboard?

The travel guarantee applies when you believe that you will be at least 20 minutes late arriving at your destination due to having to wait a long time for the next scheduled service, or that you are at risk of missing your connection.

What happens if there are alternative routes?

If you have strong reasons for taking a taxi rather than opting for an alternative route, the travel guarantee applies provided that you believe that you will arrive at your destination at least 20 minutes later than expected. Such reasons may include you not being able to contact customer services for information on other routes.

What happens if there are substitute services operating?

In the event of major disruptions to services, we try to organise substitute services. The travel guarantee applies if you have strong reasons for opting for a taxi rather than using the substitute services, i.e. if you must catch a train and you are unsure of whether you will actually make it on time if you use the substitute service.

If services are disrupted for an extended period of time, we produce temporary timetables and provide information on these. In this event, the travel guarantee applies on the basis of the temporary timetable.
