An offer from your municipality
It is your municipality that decides whether to offer a senior ticket and from what age (65, 70 or 75 years). The municipality pays the senior ticket for you.
The senior ticket can be ordered up to three months before you meet the municipality's age requirement, but you cannot start travelling with it until you have reached the age requirement. If you are registered in a municipality that offers a senior ticket, you will receive orderinformation a few weeks before you meets the municipality's age requirements.
The validity of the senior ticket varies between the municipalities. Select your municipality from the list to see the validity of your ticket.
How to use your ticket on board
Travelling using your senior ticket
Hold your Senior citizen card against the card reader when you board the vehicle. Done!
Travelling outside the zone
If you want to travel outside the zone, you can buy a ticket in the Västtrafik To Go app. You can also load money (pay-as-you-go) onto your senior citizen card at our sales outlets. With pay-as-you-go, you can make an extended trip and only pay for the part of the trip that goes outside the zone in which your senior ticket is valid.
Extended trip with pay-as-you-go
- Press the "T" button (tilläggsresa) on the card reader.
- Hold your card against the card reader. A beep sounds.
- Hold the card against the card reader again when you leave the vehicle, without pressing any button. The card reader detects how far you have traveled outside the zone.
Repeat step 1 to 3 whenever you change vehicles.
To bring along on the trip
The senior ticket is personal and at a ticket inspection you must be able to show identification. If you travel with vehicles that do not have Västtrafik's card reader, you need to bring a certificate of validity. You can get this at our sales outlets and on board most of our vehicles.
