Replacement traffic for trains

Sometimes we need to run replacement traffic when we can't run our trains as intended. When this happens, we do our best to ensure that your trip is affected as little as possible. There are a few things that can be good to know.

Current traffic disruptions

You can find information about current and upcoming traffic disruptions here on the web and when you search for your journey in the Västtrafik To Go app.

In the event of a disruption, we recommend that you search for your journey to see how to travel between two stops and what applies to your departure.

Replacement buses and route numbers

In 2024, we introduced route numbers on our replacement buses for trains. This means that you can easily find the right replacement bus when your train is cancelled. Each train route has its own route number.

One line number – different mileage

In addition, a replacement bus's destination sign has a letter after the line number, such as 20A or 21B. The letters show how each bus drives:

  • A – Via all stations
  • B – Direct between two stations
  • C – Drives from a specific station and is then intended for getting off only. No boarding along the route.
  • D, R, S, etc. – Special variants, e.g. one or more intermediate stations may be excluded from the route.

When you search for your trip in the travel planner, you can currently see replacement buses that we have planned previously. We are working to ensure that in the future you will also be able to see replacement buses' departure times in our app Västtrafik To Go, even when they're planned with short notice.

Bicycle, stroller and technical aids

Sometimes we need to drive buses that do not have space for, for example, bicycles or prams. Contact our customer service for help on how to travel further.
