Our age limits and discounts
The traveller category children is valid until the day the child reach the age of seven. For safety reasons, children under sex years old may not travel alone. Children over sex years old may travel alone with their own valid ticket (Youth). Any number of children travel for free with a traveller who has a valid ticket. For information on the number of accompanying children (0-6 years) on board a train, visit the website of the relevant railway company.
The traveller category youth is valid until the day you reach the age of 20. As a youth, you get a 25 percent discount on the regular ticket price. The discount applies to all tickets with the exception of ticket purchases where you tap your payment card. Any number of children under seven years of age of travel for free with a young person who has a valid ticket.
The traveller category adult is valid from the day you reach the age of 20. With an adult period or day ticket (1 and 3 days) in the Västtrafik To Go app, you can take three people under the age of 20 with you for free. Any number of children under seven years of age travel for free with an adult who has a valid ticket.
The traveller category student is valid if you have:
- Digital student ID in Mecenat, WeStudents or Studentkortet/STUK with the student travel symbol in the app.
- Valid ID.
The student discount gives you a 25 percent discount on period tickets for 30, 90 and 365 days. Any number of children under seven years of age travel for free with a student who has a valid ticket.
Travellers with certificate card can receive a 25 percent discount on period tickets for 30, 90 and 365 days. The certificate from the Swedish Social Insurance Agency (Försäkringskassan) must be taken with you when you travel to show that you are entitled to buy the ticket at the discounted price.
Municipalities offer their elderly registered residents a senior ticket. The senior ticket allows you to travel for free with public transport within the zone your municipality belongs to. When travelling with your senior ticket, you must be able to show a valid ID. Any number of children under seven years of age travel for free with a senior who has a valid senior ticket (does not apply to young people aged 7-19). The Travel 4, pay for 1 offer is not valid with Senior Citizen Card.
