How we protect your personal information
It's important that you feel safe and secure with Västtrafik, even where it concerns your privacy. On this page you can read about the personal data we store and why. Everything is done in a safe and lawful manner in accordance with GDPR, the EU General Data Protection Regulation.
Västtrafik AB is responsible for your data
Västtrafik AB, org. no. 556558-5873, is responsible for ensuring that your personal data is processed in accordance with the law.
Västtrafik is committed to safeguarding your privacy and will always protect your personal data using the technical and organisational measures necessary in each individual case to ensure that processing is carried out in compliance with applicable legislation.
When you travel using public transport or make use of Västtrafik’s services, you provide some form of information to Västtrafik. For example, when you charge and use your Västtrafik card, register on My Pages on the Västtrafik website, participate in competitions and promotions, claim delay compensation and so forth.
Sometimes Västtrafik also acquires personal data from sources other than you personally. This may include data from your municipality, the Swedish Transport Agency, SPAR or other public sources e.g. for credit reports and address updates.
It can be your name, email address, phone number, postal address, date of birth, purchase and travel history, payment information and other information you have provided us with, or is necessary to enable us to fulfil our commitments to you.
Västtrafik has the right to process the personal data necessary for the fulfilment of our commitment to you, or if you have given us your consent to process your data. Västtrafik may also need to process your personal data to comply with laws and regulations.
In some cases, Västtrafik may need your consent to process your personal data. When you provide your consent in these cases, you will always get clear information about what you agree to.
Among the things we may use your personal data for are:
To provide you with good service:
- We manage and carry out your ticket purchases.
- We manage and process your questions to Västtrafik's customer service.
- We manage and process orders and the performance of e.g. special-order transport, medical travel and other Dial-a-Ride services.
- We provide Wi-Fi service in our travel centres.
- We manage lost property.
- We manage your accounts on My Pages and in the Västtrafik To Go app.
To provide you with relevant information and offers:
- We send newsletters with information about public transport.
- We conduct analyses that enable us to provide you with relevant marketing offers and information.
- We send emails and text notifications about disruptions and any other changes to traffic.
- We manage your participation in competitions and promotions.
To develop public transport and Dial-a-Ride transport:
- We keep statistics for the purpose of developing Västtrafik's services in order to improve travel for as many people as possible.
- We carry out voluntary market research and surveys to provide you with the opportunity to influence our office and services.
To conduct checks:
- We carry out credit checks for credit purchases.
- When you buy online, we have to confirm you have reached the legal minimum age.
- We prevent misuse or improper use of our services.
- We check your ticket's validity and where necessary, issue a surcharge.
Your personal data is used by Västtrafik and Västtrafik's personal data processors. We will not disclose personal information to other companies unless we must do so due to legislations, regulations or decisions by competent authorities, or to protect our rights or those of any third party.
We never pass on, sell or exchange your personal data for marketing purposes to third parties outside Västtrafik. Data is only forwarded to third parties (e.g. transport companies) where this is necessary to provide public transport services, ticket sales or any other necessary service.
Västtrafik is governed by the freedom of information principle. This means certain documents constitute so-called public documents which Västtrafik must disclose should anyone so request. Before disclosure, a confidentiality test is conducted in compliance with the Swedish Public Access to Information and Secrecy Act.
Västtrafik saves your personal data in compliance with the purging decisions applicable to Västtrafik and which are approved by the Regional State Archives. The purging decisions contain information about when Västtrafik may purge (remove) documents that contain your personal data.
You can see all transactions associated with your registered Västtrafik card on My Pages over a period of 90 days.
You have the right at any time (free of charge once per year) to request information about personal data concerning you that we have on file. Your request must be in writing with your signature, and include your name and personal ID number. We need this to make sure we provide the data to the right person.
Send requests for extracts from the register, information or the rectification of incorrect data to: Västtrafik AB, Registrar, Box 123, SE 541 23 Skövde, SWEDEN. The information will be sent to your civil-register address.
If the data held by Västtrafik is incorrect, incomplete or irrelevant, you may ask to have it rectified. We may not delete information that constitutes public documents, or if we are required by law to store it for e.g. accounting purposes, nor may we erase data when there are legitimate reasons for storing it, e.g., unpaid debts.
You may at any time revoke your consent to use the data for marketing purposes.
You also have the right to complain to the Data Inspection Board, which is the supervisory authority regarding processing of personal data.
Västtrafik only transfers personal data to countries outside the EU/EEA if the country has an adequate level of protection as understood by the EU or the European Commission, or if this was made specifically clear when you provided your personal data to us.
From time to time, Västtrafik makes changes to this policy. A new version becomes effective once it is made available on our website.
