Most municipalities in the Västra Götaland region offer their elderly registered residents a senior ticket. With the senior ticket you can travel for free with public transport within the zone your municipality belongs to.
An offer from your municipality
It is your municipality that decides whether to offer a senior ticket and from what age (65 or 75 years). The municipality pays the senior ticket for you, but some municipalities charge a one-time administrative fee. See information for each municipality below.
Ordering
The senior ticket can be ordered up to three months before you meet the municipality's age requirement, but you cannot start travelling with it until you have reached the age requirement. If you are registered in a municipality that offers a senior ticket, you will receive orderinformation a few weeks before you turn 65 or 75 years.
Lines: All Västtrafik's lines, Flexlinjer, Närtrafik, and Öresundståg.
How to use your ticket on board
Travelling using your senior ticket
Hold your Senior citizen card against the card reader when you board the vehicle. Done!
Travelling outside the zone
An easy way to travel across the zone boundary is to top up your Senior citizen card with money (pay-as-you-go). Then you can make a so called “extended trip” and only pay for the part of the trip that goes outside the zone in which your senior ticket is valid.
To make an extended trip
Press the button marked T on the card reader.
Hold your card against the card reader.
Hold the card against the card reader again when you leave the vehicle.
A certificate of validity - if you are travelling with vehicles that do not have a Västtrafik card reader (eg most vehicles that you must pre-order). You can get a validity certificate at Västtrafik's points of sale and on board most of our vehicles.
