Wheelchairs, walkers and other technical aids

If there is space, you can bring technical aids such as walkers, wheelchairs and electric wheelchairs on our vehicles. It may not exceed 70 cm wide, 120 cm long and, together with the passenger, weigh a maximum of 300 kg. This applies with the exception of trams and boats at low or high tide with plus/minus 60 cm at piers that are not floating docks. The maximum limit is then 250 kg. The wheelchair must be braked while driving.

If you are travelling with a walker or wheelchair, you will receive assistance with a lift/ramp on the vehicles if you need it, with the exception of the tram. In that case, you must alert the driver yourself when you are about to get on or off. However, you should be able to get on and off on your own or with the help of an escort. If necessary, you will be assisted by traffic staff in securing the wheelchair.

In exceptional cases, however, there may be special circumstances where the driver or on-board staff deems this not possible, for example if it would affect the safety on board the vehicle or the safety of you as a passenger. If you are going to travel by boat at low or high tide with plus/minus 60 cm, we cannot guarantee that you can get on board from piers that are not floating docks.

On accessible vehicles with an approved wheelchair space, boarding must take place through doors with orange markings. There are also symbol signs at the boarding door and on board. When a fastening device is available, it must be used throughout the journey. In buses and trams that do not have a restraint device , the wheelchair must be facing backwards towards support or seat back in the direction of travel. When the wheelchair space in the tram is occupied, you can use the flex area. Wheelchairs, walkers and strollers using the flex area must not block aisles or doors for safety reasons. In buses without a special wheelchair space, you are not allowed to travel in the wheelchair, but you must use a regular seat and the empty wheelchair must be in the designated place and be locked with a brake.

Escort service at stations and terminals

If you have a disability or special needs, you are entitled to assistance with escort at stations and terminals where this service is available in connection with your journey. More information about the escort service can be found on Västtrafik's website.

Guide and assistance dog

If you are in need of a guide or assistance dog, you can board via all doors and travel in any place in the vehicle. In some buses, there is a recommended place for guide dog teams behind the driver.

The travel assistance card is a ticket that allows people entitled to transport services who have difficulty moving around on public transport to bring a friend or companion with them to help. The holder of the travel assistance card must have their own valid ticket for their journey and lend the travel assistance card to the person travelling with them as a travel assistance. The Travel Assistance Card can only be used in combination with another valid ticket. The card is personal and the customer's (the person entitled to transport services) name is printed on the card. The card is only valid together with a valid ID document.

At a ticket inspection, the customer must be able to show a valid ticket, Travel Assistance Card and identification with the same name as on the Travel Assistance Card. When travelling with a vehicle without a card reader, the customer must have a certificate of validity for the Travel Assistance Card. The card is valid for a maximum of two years at a time.
