Appeal surcharge

Here you can appeal your surcharge. You must appeal within 10 days of receiving the fare. To help us handle your case quickly, please include information such as your ticket number, where you got on, and any relevant times.

How we handle your appeal

When you submit your appeal via the form, the payment requirement is put on hold until we have made a decision. If we need more information to investigate your case, we will contact you to request additional documentation.

Frequently asked questions about surcharges

Depending on the type of ticket you have, we need different information from you. Use the appeal form and attach files as shown below.

School ticket

A student on their way to elementary school has the right to travel even without a ticket. This applies only to journeys to the first lesson of the day. During the school day, the student must request a temporary ticket to be issued. A student who cannot present their school ticket during an inspection should be informed about the possibility of presenting it later and will be noted for an additional fee. The student must then contact Västtrafik's customer service within ten days and attach a photocopy of the valid school ticket. The surcharge is 50 SEK for those aged 15-17 and 150 SEK for those aged 18.

Student certificate

To have your surcharge reduced to SEK 150, you need to attach a screenshot from your student ID showing that you have the student travel symbol and ticket. Also attach a picture of your ID.

Other tickets

To have your surcharge reduced to SEK 150, we need to verify that you had a valid ticket at the time of the check. Use the appeal form. The ticket must be registered on My Account and belong to you who received the surcharge. The ticket must also be activated before the time of the ticket inspection. For the ticket to be valid, you need to have purchased and activated your digital ticket before boarding the vehicle or have checked in your card in connection with boarding.

Surcharges that are not printed on site at the ticket inspection are instead sent by post to your registered address.

To see your surcharge and its OCR number, you can log in to MyRopo with BankID. You can contact Ropo at 010–174 01 90 Monday to Friday, between 8 AM and 5 PM, or via Ropo’s website.

No, if you have appealed, you should not pay until we have contacted you with a response.

To appeal on behalf of someone else, you need to attach a power of attorney or a certificate proving guardianship. The power of attorney must be signed by both parties. Attach pictures of both of their IDs.

A power of attorney from a guardian is not required in the case of an appeal against a minor's surcharge.

If you are unable to use the digital form, please use our form that you can print and post instead.

An appeal must be made within 10 days from the date on which the surcharge was issued.

You must submit your appeal no later than 10 days after the fee is issued. After 10 days, you can no longer appeal.

We handle cases in turn. If you have submitted your appeal via the form, the payment claim is automatically paused until we have returned with a decision on your case.

If we need more information to investigate your surcharge, we will contact you and ask for further documentation.
