It is important to Västtrafik that you feel confident that we process your personal data in a secure and legal manner. On this page, we describe how we process your personal data.
All processing of personal data takes place in accordance with applicable legislation. Among other things, this means that we take the necessary measures to protect your personal data and that you always have the right to contact us to find out what personal data we have stored about you. Who is responsible for your personal data?
Västtrafik AB, org. no. 556558-5873, is the controller for the processing of your personal data and is responsible for ensuring that such processing takes place in a legal manner.
How does Västtrafik obtain your personal data?
Västtrafik collects personal data that you provide to us when you travel using public transport and when you otherwise use Västtrafik’s services. This may be, for example, when you load and use your Västtrafikkort or To Go ticket, register for My Pages on Västtrafik’s website, contact Västtrafik’s Customer service, book demand-responsive services, transportation service and hospital trips, take part in competitions and promotions or submit a claim for delay compensation, etc.
Västtrafik may also obtain personal data from sources other than you. This data may come from your municipal authority, the Swedish Transport Agency, SPAR or other public sources for the purposes of credit checks and address updates, for example.
What data is processed?
Västtrafik processes the personal data provided to us. This may include your name, e-mail address, telephone number, postal address, date of birth, purchase and travel history, payment information and/or other information that you have provided to us or which is otherwise necessary in order for us to fulfil our obligations to you.
Why does Västtrafik process data about me?
We may use your personal data for purposes including the following:
- To fulfil our obligations to you,
- To provide good service and well-functioning, effective and straightforward services,
- To administer and implement your ticket purchase,
- To handle and administer your questions submitted to Västtrafik’s Customer service,
- To administer the booking of transportation service, hospital trips and other demand-responsive services,
- To administer items left behind (lost property),
- To check the validity of your ticket, at a ticket inspection for example,
- To issue any penalty fares,
- To maintain statistics in order to develop Västtrafik’s services and so make travel better for as many people as possible,
- To carry out voluntary market surveys,
- For your participation in competitions and promotions,
- To send you text messages or otherwise notify you of any changes or disruptions to public transport,
- To send you marketing offers about Västtrafik’s services,
- To notify the winners of competitions organised online,
- To manage My Pages and your To Go app,
- To perform credit checks for credit purchases,
- To perform analyses so that we can provide you with relevant marketing offers and information,
- To confirm that you are of the legal minimum age to make purchases online,
- To send you surveys that give you the opportunity to help shape our offering and services,
- To send out newsletters,
- To prevent misuse or inappropriate use of our services,
- To provide our Wi-Fi-service in our travel centres.
When does Västtrafik have the right to process your personal data?
Västtrafik has the right to process the personal data necessary to fulfil our obligations to you or if you have given your consent to processing. Västtrafik may also need to process your personal data as a result of legal or statutory requirements.
In some cases, Västtrafik may need your consent before processing your personal data. When you give consent in such cases, you will always be given clear information about what you are consenting to.
Who has access to your personal data?
Your personal data is used by Västtrafik and by Västtrafik’s data processors. We do not pass your personal data to other companies unless we need to do so on the basis of law, ordinance or public authority decision or in order to protect our rights or those of third parties.
We never pass on, sell or exchange your personal data for marketing purposes to third parties outside Västtrafik. Data is passed to third parties (e.g. transport companies) only where this is necessary for the provision of public transport services, the sale of Västtrafik’s tickets and other services.
Västtrafik is subject to the principle of public access. This means that certain documents constitute what are called official documents, which Västtrafik must disclose on request. Before disclosure, a secrecy review is performed in accordance with the Swedish Public Access to Information and Secrecy Act.
Transfer to third countries
Västtrafik transfers personal data to countries outside the EU/EEA only if the country in question has an adequate level of protection according to the EU or the European Commission, or if this is specifically indicated when you provide your personal data to us.
How long do we store your personal data?
Västtrafik stores your personal data in accordance with the erasure decision that applies to Västtrafik and which has been approved by the Regional Archive. The erasure decision contains information about when Västtrafik can erase (remove) documents containing your personal data.
You can view your transactions linked to your registered Västtrafikkort on My Pages for 90 days.
What are your rights?
You have the right to request information about what personal data we have stored about you at any time (free of charge once a year). Your request must be made in writing, signed by you and include your name and personal identity number. We need this in order to ensure that we provide information to the right person.
If your data is incorrect, incomplete or irrelevant, you can request to have it corrected. We cannot delete your data that constitutes an official document or where there is a statutory requirement for it to be stored, such as under accounting regulations, or where there are other legitimate reasons why the data must be stored, such as unpaid debts. You can withdraw your consent to our use of your data for marketing purposes at any time.

You also have the right, where appropriate, to submit a complaint to the Swedish Data Protection Authority, which is the supervisory authority for the processing of personal data.

Västtrafik safeguards your privacy. Västtrafik is therefore always working to implement all appropriate technical and organisational measures necessary in each individual case to protect your personal data and otherwise ensure that processing takes place in accordance with applicable law.
Västtrafik continuously updates this policy. Each new version applies when it is made available at the website www.vasttrafik.se. We will announce if and when any such change takes place through notification on My Pages and otherwise via our digital channels.
