Cheaper season tickets for residents of Gothenburg

In spring 2026, season tickets in the Västtrafik To Go app will become cheaper for residents of Gothenburg, as the City of Gothenburg will subsidise part of the ticket price.

Applies to season tickets in zone A

To get the reduced price, you need to be registered as a resident of Gothenburg and logged into the Västtrafik To Go app. The subsidy applies to 30-, 90- and 365-day tickets in zone A. It does not apply to youth or student tickets.

Just over 16 percent of each period ticket is subsidized by the City of Gothenburg.

To promote sustainable travel by public transport, the politicians in the City of Gothenburg have decided to offer their residents lower prices on season tickets through a subsidy. This means that the City of Gothenburg pays part of the ticket price for residents who are registered in the municipality.

Yes, season tickets purchased through an employer and paid via net salary deduction or as a taxable benefit will also be subsidized.

The subsidy will take effect sometime during the spring of 2026. We will carry out tests at the beginning of the year, and after that we will get back with the exact date when the subsidy will start to apply.

Once the subsidy is available in the Västtrafik To Go app, you need to be logged in to My Account in the app. Then, purchase your season ticket for Zone A. The app will indicate that you are buying a ticket at the subsidized price. The subsidy will be deducted, and you will see it reflected in the total amount before you pay for the ticket.

No, AB and ABC tickets already have a lower average price per zone compared to a subsidized Zone A ticket. Therefore, an AB ticket is cheaper.

Example: A 30-day AB ticket costs SEK 1,295. The price for a subsidized Zone A ticket (SEK 720) plus a Zone B ticket (SEK 860) would be SEK 1,580.

Following a decision by the City of Gothenburg, only period tickets in Zone A are subsidized.

Västtrafik is not lowering the price. Instead, the politicians in the City of Gothenburg have decided to subsidize 16 percent of the price of season tickets in the Västtrafik To Go app for their residents. The ticket prices are set by the politicians in the Västra Götaland Region. In the future, it should be possible for more municipalities to do the same as Gothenburg.

Our cards and technical systems are being phased out and will be replaced by a more modern solution in a few years. Therefore, the subsidy is only offered in the Västtrafik To Go app, where the vast majority of tickets are purchased today.
