Student discount

As an adult student, you can get a 25 percent student discount on our period tickets. The student discount means that even those who have turned 20 can buy period tickets at youth prices (30, 90 or 365 days). To use the discount, you need "Studentresesymbolen" in your digital student ID.

Download an app for a valid student ID. The icon "Studentresesymbolen" is required on the student ID. (More about valid student IDs below.)

Ready to travel! During a ticket inspection you need to show your ticket, student ID and regular identification such as passport or national ID card.

Student ID for discount

To travel with a student discount, you need to have a student ID from Hitract, Mecenat, Orbi, WeStudents or Studentkortet/stuk.co as an app with Studentresesymbolen. The student icon symbol for 2026/2027 is yellow. The student ID must have the student icon and be valid for the entire time that the period ticket is valid.

You need to be able to show that you are a student to travel with discounted price. If you cannot view student ID and id for our ticket control you can get a fee. You have the right to appeal a surcharge on Västtrafik's website within ten days of the inspection.

No, the student discount is only valid on Youth Period Tickets (30, 90 or 365 days).

Since SFI (Swedish for Immigrants) is not a CSN student aid eligible education, the student's home municipality is responsible for schooling and compensation for SFI students, including travel expenses. If the passenger's student ID does not have a student travel symbol, the traveler is not entitled to a student discount.

Yes, it is possible to lend the season ticket to another student with a valid student ID or to a young person under the age of 20.

It depends on what kind of period ticket you have. If you have a period ticket that is valid for the operator you want to travel with, you can also use the student discount when you travel with them.

You must be studying at a university, higher education institution or in other adult education that provides entitlement to student finance from CSN. You must be studying at least part time for at least 10 consecutive weeks and have student identification from Mecenat, Orbi, WeStudents or studentkortet/stuk.co in one of their apps.

No, our offer "Travel 4, pay for 1" is only valid for period tickets at adult prices. It is therefore not possible to combine the student discount with that offer. Children between 0-7 years old travel free of charge with an adult or youth.
