Västtrafik's privacy policy

Västtrafik protects your privacy and always protects your personal data with the technical and organisational measures required in each individual case, and ensures that the processing takes place in accordance with applicable law.

When you travel by public transport or use Västtrafik's services, it means that you provide some form of information to Västtrafik. For example, when you load and use your Västtrafik card, register in My Account on Västtrafik's website, participate in competitions and campaigns, register for delay compensation, and so on.

Sometimes it also happens that Västtrafik receives personal data from sources other than yourself. For example, this may include information from your municipality, the Swedish Transport Agency, SPAR or other public sources, as well as medical travel in Region Västra Götaland or Region Västra Götaland's population register Västfolket, for the purpose of being used for credit information and address updates, for example.

This may include your name, e-mail address, telephone number, postal address, date of birth, social security number, purchase and travel history, payment information, as well as information about your customer permit and other information that you have provided to us, or that is necessary for us to be able to fulfil our obligations to you. We also handle indirect personal data such as IP numbers, cookies and free text information.

Västtrafik has the right to process the personal data that is required for the fulfilment of our commitment to you, or if you have given your consent for us to process your data. Västtrafik may also need to process your personal data due to requirements in law or regulation.

In some cases, Västtrafik may need your consent to process your personal data. When you give your consent in these cases, you will always receive clear and unambiguous information about what you are consenting to.

We may use your personal information for the following purposes, among others:

To provide you with a good service:

  • We administer and complete your purchase of a ticket.
  • We administer and manage your Resplus booking.
  • We handle and administer your questions to Västtrafik's customer service.
  • We administer and manage the ordering and execution of, for example, special transport service trips, medical trips and other journeys in demand-controlled traffic.
  • We provide Wifi service in our travel centers.
  • We administer lost property.
  • We manage your account on My Account and in the Västtrafik To Go app.

To provide you with relevant information and offers:

  • We send newsletters with information about public transport.
  • We carry out analyses so that we can provide you with relevant marketing offers and information.
  • We send emails and text message notifications about disruptions and any other traffic changes.
  • We administer your participation in competitions and promotions.

To develop public transport and demand-controlled* traffic:

  • We keep statistics with the aim of developing Västtrafik's services and thereby making travel better for as many people as possible.
  • We conduct voluntary market research and surveys that give you the opportunity to influence our offers and services.

For journeys in demand-controlled* traffic:

  • We administer orders for travel.
  • We carry out ordered trips.
  • We investigate events and views from you as a customer, but also from your municipality and medical trips in the Västra Götaland region.
  • We carry out voluntary customer surveys.
  • We report travel and statistics to your municipality and medical trips in the Västra Götaland region.

*Demand-controlled traffic includes journeys with, for example, transport services, medical journeys, school trips, care trips and day care trips within demand-controlled traffic.

To make checks:

  • We carry out credit checks in connection with credit purchases.
  • When purchasing online, we need to confirm that you are of the legal minimum age.
  • We prevent misuse or inappropriate use of our services.
  • We will check the validity of your ticket and, if necessary, issue a surcharge.
  • Information and photographic material may be requested for investigative purposes. The received material is then handled by an authorized investigator within the framework of the investigation.

Your personal data is used by Västtrafik and Västtrafik's personal data processors, such as Västtrafik's booking centre, Västtrafik's partner companies, municipalities and medical services in the Västra Götaland region, as well as taxi companies, hotels and travel agencies in connection with the processing of Resplus bookings. We do not disclose personal data to other companies unless we are required to do so due to law, regulation or government decision, or to protect our rights or the rights of third parties.

We never forward, sell or trade your personal data for marketing purposes to third parties outside of Västtrafik. Data is only passed on to third parties (e.g. transport companies) if it is necessary for the provision of public transport services, ticketing or any other necessary service.

Västtrafik is subject to the principle of public access to official documents. This means that certain documents constitute so-called public documents that Västtrafik must disclose if someone requests it. Prior to disclosure, a confidentiality assessment is carried out in accordance with the Public Access to Information and Secrecy Act.

Västtrafik saves your personal data in accordance with the deletion decisions that apply to Västtrafik and that have been approved by the Regional Archives. The deletion decisions contain information about when Västtrafik may delete documents containing your personal data.

You can see all transactions linked to your registered Västtrafik card on My Account for 90 days.

You have the right to request information about what personal data we have stored about you at any time (free of charge once a year). Your request must be in writing and signed in your own hand and contain information about your name and social security number. We need this to ensure that we disclose the data to the right person.

Send your request for a register extract, information or correction of incorrect information to: Västtrafik AB, Registrar, Box 123, 541 23 Skövde. The information will be sent to your registered address.

If your information at Västtrafik is incorrect, incomplete or irrelevant, you can request that it be corrected. We cannot delete data that constitutes public documents or when there is a statutory requirement for storage, such as accounting rules. We also cannot delete data when there are legitimate reasons why the data must be saved, such as unpaid debts.

You also have the right to complain to the Swedish Authority for Privacy Protection (IMY), which is the supervisory authority for the processing of personal data.

If you are a registered customer on My Account, you can unsubscribe and withdraw your consent for the processing of your personal data as well as for communication and marketing purposes. 

In order for Västtrafik to be able to administer and carry out your journey with demand-controlled traffic in the best possible way according to the conditions granted by your municipality or Region Västra Götaland, Västtrafik needs to process certain personal data about you.

How Västtrafik receives your personal data

Your personal data may come from various sources, such as yourself, your municipality, medical travel in Region Västra Götaland or Region Västra Götaland's population register Västfolket.

Personal data that is processed is, for example, name, address, social security number, telephone number and information about what has been decided about your travels by your municipality or the Region.

The personal data you provide in your order for a senior ticket will be used by Västtrafik AB to handle and administer your order, register your use of the senior ticket, send you information related to the senior ticket and keep statistics for the purpose of developing Västtrafik AB: s services.

The legal basis for the processing of personal data is the fulfilment of the contractual relationship that arises between you and Västtrafik when you order your senior ticket. You are not obliged to provide your personal information, but if you choose not to do so, you will not be able to get a senior ticket. The senior ticket must be registered to you, among other things so that we can inform you if the municipality changes the terms and conditions of the senior ticket, and that we can ensure that you are still registered in the municipality.

This privacy policy applies to our service and app Västtrafik Buss on demand, which has been developed together with Padam Mobility. By participating in competitions, you agree that Västtrafik processes your personal data in accordance with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). The personal data will be used to administer the competition and contact the winners.

We may collect and process the following personal data:

  • Usernames on social media platforms

Your personal data will be used to administer the competition, contact the winners and possibly publish the winning entries on our social media platforms, and we will only retain your personal data for as long as necessary to administer the competition and fulfil our obligations under these competition terms. After the end of the competition, the personal data will be deleted.

Västtrafik only transfers personal data to countries outside the EU/EEA if the country has a so-called adequate level of protection according to the EU or the European Commission, or if this has been specifically stated in connection with you providing us with your personal data.

Västtrafik's website uses small text files, so-called cookies, to facilitate your browsing of the site. They are mainly used to collect statistics about users' visits and improve the experience.
